Update 2 Progress


Hello everyone!

We've been working on the second area of Autonomous Anarchy for a little over a month now. This devlog will go over what we have done so far and our future plans for the next update!

 Area 2 plans:

The second area of Autonomous Anarchy takes place in a forest logging compound. We are planning to divide it up into 3 different "sections" with 5 levels each. A big part of this area is going to be a thunder storm that develops more and more the further you progress.

Level plans:

Levels 1-5 start in a grassy logging compound. After entering the compound you will make your way to a bridge over a very large river. After crossing the bridge and heading down, you find a large dam fortress and after blasting your way through the plethora of enemies in the fortress level 5 will end with you entering a thicker forest.

From level 6 onwards, you will venture further and further into the forest and meet some new logging related enemies. The rainstorm will get more intense with each level.

After level 10, the rainstorm will evolve into a thunder storm with new obstacles such as lightning strikes and burning trees.

Enemy and Boss plans:

We also want to touch on the new enemies we are planning to introduce with this area. Currently, we have 5 new enemies planned but that number may increase as we get further on in development. The enemies seen in the previous area will also be returning to this one.

The 5 enemies we have planned so far are:

Choppers: Similar to crowbarers but they carry axes instead and have slightly altered stats.

Log Golems: Massive, un-killable robots that roll logs in a certain direction. Make sure to avoid the rolling logs as they will heavily damage anything in their path.

Grenadiers: They throw small grenades that explode in a small area of effect after a short delay.

Snipers: They lie low, camouflaged in the bushes waiting to spot you. They won't pose much of a threat up close but at long range they can inflict a lot of damage.

War Golems: They look similar to log golems but walk around and carry massive weaponry. They will be hard to destroy but rather slow.

The area boss of the forest will be something logging related. We'll share more in a later update.

Our Progress:

We are currently working on designing levels 1-5. We've finished almost all of the art for these levels so we just need to put them together. The screenshots and videos above show how things are coming along. We should also mention that we are working on the new music track for area 2 and it's coming along pretty good.

We are still a little ways away from working on levels 6-10 but we've been planning them out and will begin working on them as soon as we finish the first 5 levels. 

Levels 11-15 will use mostly the same assets as levels 6-10 but the effects we have planned for the thunderstorm may prove challenging. It should be fun to work on however we'll want to have levels 1-10 finished before we start working on them.

We hope to have the area 2 update out before the end of the year, and we will make sure to post a more exact date once we're close to completion.

Other features in the update

We have some other features coming in addition to the new levels. We have done some slight tweaking to the first area, such as adding more powerups to each level so you can level up easier if you die. We are also going to add save rooms every ~5 levels so you don't go back to the start of the whole area if you lose all your continues. Another thing in the works are screen clearing bombs. We have 3 types planned and they can be found in levels just like powerups. Of course there are plenty of other things and these will be covered in detail once we get closer to releasing the update.
